A new day dawns,
just like the one before.
Or is it?
Today, on the ascension solstice
the parade sails through town
to great cheering and celebration.
The war has ended.
Reconstruction begun.
The bars have been withdrawn,
retracted. And we are freed
from our own slavery.
And what do we choose
with that new found freedom?
Repeating the past?
Following familiar patterns?
“Please don’t disturb my
sense of limitation.
It may be Auschwitz
but it’s home.”
Or do we climb out
of the bowels of the ship,.
step through the way
once barred..
and leave behind
the old familiar ways.
We step on shore,
with an unsure rolling gait,
but with a trusting curiosity
that what we want and
what brings us joy
will be here to support us.
Good work.
