Male goose stands
chest puffed out.
Guarding.
Only his head swivels,
to track invaders
on the boardwalk.
Slim female
feeds gracefully
head darting down for food
never needing to look up.
She knows he’s there.
Mated for life
he stands guard
in Alaska in the summer
in Mississippi in the winter.
Our male energy
guards and protects
our female energy
as it feeds and nurtures.
